Evening supplement: Feline Immune System Support

Bed-time play: 45 minutes. Small McDonald’s beanie baby bear, Empty M&M dispenser box, Drinking straw tied into a knot, a CD to reflect light through a whole on the M&M dispenser box, Artificial fly on fishing rod, and 3 drinking straws looped around a CD (attached to a string).

It was a night of fun and excitement for Nemo. The small McDonald’s beanie baby has always been on our desk but Nemo never paid much attention to it. I tried to entice him to play with it a couple of times without success. Last night, when I introduced it to Nemo once again, he surprisingly went straight for the kill—a whole-hearted bite right on the bear’s neck! He then started biting on the ear and clawing it. Beanie-babyNext I brought out an empty M&M dispenser box and laid it down on the desk with the opening facing Nemo. I put the beanie baby in the box and stuck a drinking straw through the gap on the bottom to entice Nemo to look inside. Nemo pulled out the beanie baby with just one paw wipe. Next he started to concentrate on the straw. I moved the straw around inside the box but it’s when I retracted the straw that really caught his attention. He crawled into the box in attempt to catch the straw. Soon enough he found out that it’s me who’s pulling on the straw and when I pulled it completely out of the box I’d hid it under the desk. Once he figured out the whole routine he stopped attaching the straw. He just sat back and watched me go. It always amazes me how smart he is.

M&M boxAfter a few minutes I grabbed a CD on the desk, shined a light on it, and placed it behind a small hole on the M&M box. The reflected light through the hole immediately caught Nemo’s attention. He approached with caution and looked through the hole with only one eye, trying to find the source. Then he started batting the box with his paw. I thought, since he liked straws and CD, why didn’t I put those together and make a toy out of it? So I looped 3 drinking straws through the hole on the CD and hung the whole assembly with a thread. I flicked the CD in front of Nemo so it reflected First Nemo found this “gadget” suspicious. Finally he couldn’t resist the urge and started attacking it, trying to get a bite out of the straws.

As a pet owner, nothing is more satisfactory than coming up with a free toy that he/she likes.
